Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Review

I picked up a Neutrogena Mineral Sheers powder at the drugstore on a whim. I had heard good things about mineral makeup and this product was really reasonably priced. Also, I could buy just one mineral product by itself, not as part of a set. For the most part, I do like it. It evens out my skin tone, which tends to be ruddy. It doesn't have a heavy feel. I often forget I am wearing it at all.

I also have somewhat sensitive skin and this product does not aggravate my skin. But it does not cover as well as other powder foundations I have used. If I have pimples, this powder is not enough to cover them; I have to use concealer or other foundation as well. It also doesn't last as long as other powders. I use this as an everyday coverup but I wouldn't use it for special occasions or if I'm having a breakout.

The container itself is poorly designed. The cap that goes over the brush is small, so I have to scrunch the bristles together to put it on. This ends up with some of the bristles bending or breaking. Also, you have to shake the container to get powder onto the brush, and sometimes it takes a lot of shaking.

I checked with the Skin Deep Database about this product. Neutrogena is not a signer of the Compact For Safe Cosmetics and they do do animal testing. This product was given a rating of 3 for moderate safety. Products with a 1 and 2 rating being safer.

Below are the ingredients from Neutrogena Mineral Sheers.

Ingredients from packaging: Mica; Bismuth Oxychloride; Iron Oxides; Titanium Dioxide; Polymethyl Methacrylate; Retinyl Palmitate; Tocopheryl Acetate; Ascorbic Acid; Pantothenic Acid; Soybean (Glycine Soja); Flour; Silk Powder; Zinc Stearate; Sodium Dehydroacetate; Methylparaben; Propylparaben; May Also Contain: Ultramarines; Carmine; Manganese Violet

The ingredients that cause this product to only receive a moderate rating are Tocopheryl Acetate, and the Parbans with a 4 rating for safety and Retinyl Palmitate with a 3 rating.

Bismuth Oxychloride while safe can cause problems for some women with sensitive skin.
