Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Review

I picked up a Neutrogena Mineral Sheers powder at the drugstore on a whim. I had heard good things about mineral makeup and this product was really reasonably priced. Also, I could buy just one mineral product by itself, not as part of a set. For the most part, I do like it. It evens out my skin tone, which tends to be ruddy. It doesn't have a heavy feel. I often forget I am wearing it at all.

I also have somewhat sensitive skin and this product does not aggravate my skin. But it does not cover as well as other powder foundations I have used. If I have pimples, this powder is not enough to cover them; I have to use concealer or other foundation as well. It also doesn't last as long as other powders. I use this as an everyday coverup but I wouldn't use it for special occasions or if I'm having a breakout.

The container itself is poorly designed. The cap that goes over the brush is small, so I have to scrunch the bristles together to put it on. This ends up with some of the bristles bending or breaking. Also, you have to shake the container to get powder onto the brush, and sometimes it takes a lot of shaking.

I checked with the Skin Deep Database about this product. Neutrogena is not a signer of the Compact For Safe Cosmetics and they do do animal testing. This product was given a rating of 3 for moderate safety. Products with a 1 and 2 rating being safer.

Below are the ingredients from Neutrogena Mineral Sheers.

Ingredients from packaging: Mica; Bismuth Oxychloride; Iron Oxides; Titanium Dioxide; Polymethyl Methacrylate; Retinyl Palmitate; Tocopheryl Acetate; Ascorbic Acid; Pantothenic Acid; Soybean (Glycine Soja); Flour; Silk Powder; Zinc Stearate; Sodium Dehydroacetate; Methylparaben; Propylparaben; May Also Contain: Ultramarines; Carmine; Manganese Violet

The ingredients that cause this product to only receive a moderate rating are Tocopheryl Acetate, and the Parbans with a 4 rating for safety and Retinyl Palmitate with a 3 rating.

Bismuth Oxychloride while safe can cause problems for some women with sensitive skin.

This review is for bare X minerals Mineral Make up.

I bought 4 pcs kit of mineral make up. I found them on internet shop after some research for good pure mineral makeup with natural and safe ingredients for my skin.

I paid 42 Eur for a kit. Kit includes Foundation 9 g, Concealer 5 g, Kabuki brush and Concealer Brush. It was a great value for items which I received.

I decided to buy not so known brand name, because of the cost and I was looking for mineral makeup with natural ingredients without bismuth, ultramarines, talc, oils, and I want to try something new. Before bare X minerals I used Bare Escentuals mineral foundation i.d. Bare Minerals but was not so happy.

There was a huge difference between these brands. All ingredients can be found on the bare X mineral site. Their customer service is excellent and they are very honest.

Shipping is quick and products of excellent quality! I never wore anything light on my face before because it was always so heavy and it wouldn’t allow my skin to breathe even Bare Escentuals leaves my skin not so natural looking and after i.d. bare escentuals I always have itchy skin.

Other brands like L’Oreal, Maybelline and other popular brands having mineral makeup lines too, but their ingredients are not so pure like I found in bare X minerals.

Since I gave this a try, my face looks flawless and it lasts for the entire day without ruining it. My skin now looks much better, everyday I feel fresh and natural. I can enjoy my makeup everyday.

I just love it. It provides great coverage. I am now adopting the mineral make up regimen for all my cosmetic needs, from concealer to eye shadow and I i will definitely shop at barexminerals.com again.

It works great for me and I am very happy with product, cost, quality and service.
Highly recommended!

Below are the ingredients for bare X minerals from their website:

Ingredients: titanium dioxide, iron oxides, zinc oxide, magnesium stearate, mica, kaolin clay, rice powder.

Divine Minerals Makeup Reveiw

After searching forever, I decided to give Divine Minerals a try. I was quite impressed right away that they are an eco-friendly company and the cosmetics are super affordable.

I got my package in the mail and decided I wanted to try everything right away! I was very impressed with the foundation, blended smoothly and covered everything, and I have so major scars from acne. My skin looked just flawless.

I love the earth blush, very neutral color. And the kabuki brush is just the best I have seen. And the eye pigments are just to die for, they are multi-tasking and I loved that. I ordered the Pixie Dust, Copper and the Smokey Eye Trio. I was just amazed, I love these minerals! I also decided to get the lip balm which they describe as a pigment setter, it helps set the multi-use pigment on your lips for long wear. Outstanding.

I have used Bare Escentuals and they are very over priced and honestly a big joke, Bare Escentuals is not natural, it contains Bismuth which did in fact break out my skin repeatedly. I am just glad I was finally able to find a product that really does do what it says.

I invite everyone to check them out, they are the best so far!

Another great company to consider. A signer of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics and cruelty free. No talc or bismuth. Their makeup is affordably priced and once you purchase a foundation when you run out just buy a refill bag which saves even more.

They seem to be in the process of sourcing eco friendly materials to be used as packaging and to make their brushes. It's good to see a company who looks beyond making a natural product to making sure all areas of their business are as environmentally friendly as possible.

LA Minerals Makeup Review

Hi,
I've tried so many different mineral makeup brands. Most made me itch and it took me forever to figure out why (bismuth). After trying LA Minerals products, I'm totally hooked! No bismuth and no itching, thank GOD!

I can't live without their yellow concealer. It totally hides my dark circles, and doesn't wear off. I like the Hollywood foundation the best, as it has a natural dewy type of glow to it, covers well, and lasts all day.

I have sample sizes of 2 eyeshadows: Satin Sheets and Espresso, and they are goth gogeous! I've also used the Espresso as an eyeliner.

I'm loving the Lit Up shade of bronzer. Perfect "been in the sun" glow without all the glitter.

The Veil I tried was nice too and I like that you can pick shades to coordinate with your foundation shade.

Definitely worth trying. Their samples are $2 each.

~Michelle

Here are the ingredients for the Hollywood Foundation Michelle was referring to:

* Premium Sericite Mica(Mineral-natural talc replacement),
* Titanium Dioxide (natural sunscreen),
* Silica Microspheres (Mineral-blurs imperfections & absorbs oil),
* Boron Nitride (Mineral-silky feel,increases adhesion),
* Zinc Oxide (Mineral-natural sunscreen),
* Magnesium Stearate (Mineral-increases adhesion),
* Silk Powder (Premium ingredient-softens lines, balances moisture, absorbs oil),
* Iron Oxides (colorant), UltraMarines (colorant),
* Magnesium Myristate(increases adhesion, free flow, adds slip, soft feel, rub resistance, lubricity, surface smoothness, and water repellency), and

* Dimethicone (natural binder and emollient).

Wondering about some of the ingredients used?

Some of the ingredients used are the usual players in most natural mineral makeup but a few were different than the brands I've been using.

Boron Nitride is a natural mineral and it is used to provide a silky feel, smoothness and give a soft focus look. Some women may have some sensitivity to this ingredient so try out one of the samples offered by LA Minerals to be sure.

Magnesium Stearate I have researched this and and am not sure I really understand it. It does seem to be sourced in different ways. It can be vegetable or animal sourced. It is a salt of stearic acid which is a saturated fatty acid. It is used for adhesion and is considered safe.

Dimethicone is derived from sand but according to The Green Beauty Guide is a petroleum derivative. The definition on the LA Minerals site really did not say where this ingredient comes from. From my understanding even though it is derived from a natural ingredient the end product is considered to be synthetic because it is chemically derived.
There are questions about it's safety and for women who are sensitive may cause irritation.

Magnesium Myristate is a mineral also used for smooth application and because it is absorbent.

LA Minerals is against animal testing and has signed with PETA.
